Robert Connor Dawes Foundation celebrates a remarkable week at ISPNO 2026

02 Jul 2026

The Robert Connor Dawes Foundation was proud to be part of the 21st International Symposium on Paediatric Neuro-Oncology (ISPNO 2026), held in Sydney, Australia.

Bringing together the world's leading clinicians, researchers, scientists, allied health professionals, advocates and families, ISPNO provides a unique opportunity to share the latest advances in paediatric brain tumour research, strengthen international collaborations and explore new ways to improve outcomes for children diagnosed with brain tumours.

As an organisation committed to changing the odds for children with brain cancer, it was inspiring to see the global paediatric neuro-oncology community united by a shared purpose: accelerating progress for children and families around the world.

Honouring our Founder & CEO

One of the highlights of the week was seeing our Founder & CEO, Liz Dawes OAM, receive the Community Service Achievement Award, recognising her outstanding support and commitment to the paediatric neuro-oncology community.

Presented by long-time collaborator Professor Jordan Hansford, the award celebrates more than a decade of advocacy, leadership and dedication to advancing paediatric brain cancer research while ensuring children and families receive the support they need throughout their journey.

The recognition was made even more meaningful by the words of Professor Nick Gottardo, who said:

"So very well deserved, Liz. You are helping transform the field."

While this award recognises Liz's leadership, it also reflects the collective efforts of the incredible community of researchers, clinicians, donors, volunteers, families and partners who continue to support the Foundation's mission.

Sharing the Foundation's impact

Our Head of Research, Dr Kim Wark, also presented during the Innovations in Treatment for Neurobehavioural Late Effects workshop, sharing the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation's work and our commitment to advancing paediatric brain cancer research while supporting children throughout their brain cancer journey.

Through our focus on Research, Care and Development, the Foundation continues to invest in innovative research, support collaborative clinical trials, nurture the next generation of researchers and provide practical support programs that improve quality of life for children and families.

A powerful family perspective

Scientific progress is only one part of the story.

Our Legacy Ambassador, Rob Marchmont, shared his family's lived experience during a patient and family panel, providing an important reminder of the real people behind every research breakthrough.

His story reinforced why collaboration across research, healthcare and the wider community is so essential in improving outcomes for children diagnosed with brain tumours.

Looking ahead

Throughout the week, ISPNO showcased groundbreaking research, sparked new collaborations and strengthened existing partnerships that will continue long after the symposium has ended.

The Robert Connor Dawes Foundation is proud to stand alongside the international paediatric neuro-oncology community as we work together to accelerate research, improve care and support the next generation of discoveries.

Thank you to everyone who presented their research, shared their expertise and contributed to an inspiring week of learning and collaboration.

Together, we will continue changing the odds for children and families affected by brain cancer.
